Sambazon's Bob Burnquist Represents at X Games 15

Sambazon teamrider and ambassador Bob Burnquist continued to push the limits of skateboarding last night at Summer X games with an almost perfect score of 94.00 - which tied the best run by gold medalist Jake Brown. Unfortunately, they didn't do a skate off between Bob and Jake, which we were all rooting for. But regardless, Bob walked away with a respectable silver medal after awing all his fans with the insane new stuff he was pulling on the mega ramp including a switch stance drop in.

Tonight Bob's competing in a new event called the Mega Rail Jam broadcast at 5pm PST- and on Saturday he'll be at the Vert Ramp broadcast at 6:30pm. So tune in and watch him skate on the world stage while fueling up on Sambazon Açaí!

Check out the photos and videos below for a recap of last night's Mega Ramp competition:

Pro Surfer Rochelle Ballard’s Surf into Yoga Class at the Nike 6.0 Notel Motel

Surf Into Yoga has been a really unique and exciting passion project. Working with a team, choreographing sequences, scripting, directing, producing, web lay outs, sales, and all kinds of other things that feel a bit foreign yet really interesting and exciting to learn and experience. It’s amazing when a project that is an idea becomes reality.

I’ve been going to classes since I was 19 and experiencing yoga in my life over the years of competing. It has always given me balance, great recovery, focus, and inspiration in my career and personal life. Now that I am not competing I have the privilege of creating, being inspired, inspiring, and sharing my experience of yoga and surfing with people in my community and wherever my slippers, surfboard, and yoga matt take me.

When I came to San Diego, California, Sambazon asked me if I would share some yoga with the crew at the Nike 6.0 Motel No Tell. As excited as I was, I was also a little nervous thinking about guiding a big group on my own through yoga. I’ve done it with friends and at my camps and resent workshops, but with my brother Hoku, and other yogi’s. I made it a point the few days leading into it, to lead yoga with my friends on the tour, like Sofia, Lyndsay, and Beck Woods. I was on the no partying, gotta be on it mode. Of course the night before I went to bed late and was so excited and nervous I could fall asleep for a while. Just like a contest, only way different.

I was up at light with a smile and a cup of Mate headed for the Motel. It was a great turn out, the sun was shining and the class was fun. I had Christa another yoga teacher that works for Sambazon helping to correct postures while I lead the group through restorative hip opening sequences from the DVD and a few core strengthening postures.
It was fun and felt good to share with the group.

I love inspiring people with surfing, yoga, wellness and a light approach to life. Making your body feel good, facing fears, overcoming obstacles, and finding the smile inside that feels good no matter what is going on around you.

The sun was cooking and everyone was happy with a yummy Açaí bowl after the workshop. Nike had the yoga blocks embroidered with Surf Into Yoga on them. What a cool trip! What an amazing thing for all of us to share, thanks to Sambazon and Nike for being so cool! Think I’m gonna like this…feels good to share with people and see a big peaceful smile on there face when they walk away.

Aloha,
Rochelle

Skanda’s Açaí EFA Smoothie

Fat…not only is it one of the major sources of deliciousness in food, it’s also the densest form of energy of all macronutrients (protein, fat and carbohydrates). Understanding how they work in the human body empowers us to use them to our body’s advantage.

Over 60% of açaí’s total fatty acids come from the Omega 9 fatty acid, Oleic Acid. Oleic Acid is the predominant fatty acid in heart healthy Olive oil.

With this in mind, I thought I’d share one of my favorite acai smoothie recipes (always buy organic – vote with your dollars!).

8oz water
1 pack Sambazon Pure Fuzion Açaí frozen smoothie pack (combination of Açai and Vitamin C rich Acerola)
1 tablespoon raw, unsalted sunflower seeds
2 tablespoons, Manitoba Harvest shelled hemp seed
1 tablespoon raw, unsalted almonds
1 ripe banana
1 tablespoon Amazing Grass Green Superfood

* The Açaí in this smoothie delivers the monounsaturated Omega 9 foundation while polyunsaturated Omega 3 rich nuts & seeds ensure that my body’s EFA (essential fatty acid) needs are taken care of.

Note: Each of us has ancestors who evolved with different diets and so each of our bodies will respond a little differently to fats. Health-wise, there are few things more important than understanding how our own bodies react to fats. So get your cholesterol checked and choose the fats you intake wisely. Your body will thank you!

Happy Blending,
Skanda

Sambazon at NSSAs

The National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) Nationals - the most elite amateur competitive surfing championships in the country – were hosted last month by Nike 6.0 at Sambazon’s home break, Trestles. The championships revealed the hottest up and coming surfers including winners Kolohe and Lakey. And like always, Sambazon was there to stoke out all the participants and keep the nutrition flowing. We just received a bunch of photos of the incredible competitors and onlookers that were fueling up on Sambazon açaí all weekend. Some names that come to mind: 2009 Champion Lakey Peterson, 2008 US Open Womans Champ Malia Manuel, FL ripper and aerial extraordinaire Eric Gisielman, New Team USA Coach Ian Carnies, Hawaii Legend and Sambazon ambassador Kahea Hart, 2009 NSSA National To Seed Tanner Hendrickson from Maui, and local 10 year old Griffin Colapinto in route to his 3rd place Open Mini Groms place at the 2009 NSSA Nationals.
